Light Spectrometry
See Your Lighting in a New Light
Most of us spend the majority of our day under artificial light, yet few people know what their lighting is actually producing. Two bulbs can look similar to the eye while differing greatly in spectrum, color quality, and flicker. Light spectrometry measures what your lights emit, so you can make informed choices for the spaces where you live, work, and rest.
-
It's an evaluation of the lighting in your home using a professional spectrometer, which measures the full spectrum of each light source along with other key characteristics. Every assessment is performed by Jonathan Farrar, CRMI, Building Biologist, or a technician he has personally trained, and Jonathan reviews all findings.
-
Spectrum
We capture each light source's spectral profile to show how its output is distributed across the visible range, including the balance of blue and red wavelengths.Color Temperature
We measure how warm or cool each light appears, which helps you match lighting to the time of day and how each room is used.Color Rendering
We evaluate how naturally each light source shows colors compared with daylight.Flicker
Many LED and fluorescent lights flicker at speeds you can't see. We measure flicker and identify which fixtures, bulbs, and dimmers perform best.Light Levels
We measure brightness in key areas so you can plan for bright, functional daytime spaces and dimmer, warmer evenings. -
A written report with:
Measurements for each light source evaluated
Comparisons between fixtures, bulbs, and dimmer settings
Prioritized recommendations for bulbs, fixtures, and controls
Guidance on daytime and evening lighting for bedrooms, nurseries, and living spaces
-
Wanting healthier lighting in bedrooms and nurseries
Eye strain or discomfort under certain lights
Choosing bulbs and fixtures for a new build or remodel
Evaluating screens, lamps, and specialty lighting
Wanting data instead of marketing claims on packaging
-
Families, home offices, new construction and renovation projects, and anyone who wants their lighting to better support daily routines.
-
Light spectrometry is often added to an EMF assessment, since dimmers, LED drivers, and smart bulbs can affect both lighting quality and dirty electricity.
